Concrete walls in Mafra

Yes, we deliver and install in Mafra. Our warehouse is in the Greater Lisbon area, a 38.4 km from the municipality seat — about 29 minutes of road. The most common plot here is clay and stone, undulating ground, which makes the installation average. It is the plot, more than the length of the wall, that governs the lead time.

Delivery from our warehouse

We have our own warehouse in Greater Lisbon. From the warehouse door to Mafra town hall it is 38.4 km, about 29 minutes of road. The four stock textures leave without waiting for production; what is made to order goes into manufacturing first.

Delivery is made entirely on the north bank, without crossing the Tejo: fewer variables in scheduling and no bridge toll cost.

Distance and time measured by actual road routing to the municipality's main town, not as the crow flies. Within the municipality the figure varies with the parish.

Salty air

This municipality has an exposed waterfront. It is where the difference between concrete and metal stops being aesthetic: concrete does not corrode or react to salt air, unlike any galvanised metal fence. The panel's water absorption is ≤ 6 %.

This applies to the wall, not to the accessories: gates, hinges and locks are still metal and still need maintenance near the sea.

The ground you will find in Mafra

In a precast concrete wall, almost all of the site time goes into drilling the post holes. That is why it is the plot, and not the length, that governs the lead time.

Average Clay and stone, undulating ground. Clay and limestone in alternation, on land with rises and falls.

What that means in practice

Depends on the plot. In marl areas digging goes well; on limestone bedrock it means the hammer. Rolling ground often means the wall has to be built in panel steps.

Average pace. The ground level usually causes more work than rock does.

In this particular municipality

A large municipality, with a windy Atlantic frontage and a rural interior of rolling relief. Many walls here follow the ground level in panel steps instead of running along a horizontal line.

Geological term, for anyone who wants to check: Jurassic-Cretaceous limestones and marls. Limestones, marls and sandstones, with rolling relief and irregular soil depth.

This is the municipality standard, not a guarantee for your plot. Two plots on the same street can have different layers, and old backfill turns up where nobody expects it. The lead time is only firm once we have seen the line of the wall — until then, what is here is meant to give you an idea, not to plan the works.
Each post is concreted into a hole of 300 × 300 × 800 mm, with 800 mm buried — the minimum is 700 mm. It is that embedment that ensures the wind resistance of the segment, and it is what the local geology makes easy or difficult.

Level or stepped?

SlopedPlot with a marked slope. Here the wall is almost always built in steps: each 2 m segment sits at its own level and the top of the wall steps down instead of following a straight line.

What this changes in the wall

Expect stepping along a good part of the line. The wall is higher on the upper side of each step, and that changes the panel count.

An example to give a sense of scale: on a 5 % slope, a 50 metre wall drops 2.5 metres from one end to the other — five courses of 500 mm panel. That is why on a sloping plot the number of panels is not calculated from the length alone.

How we measure

Local slope median of 13.3 % in this municipality. Measured at 14 points spread across the territory, comparing the altitude of each point with four neighbours 120 metres away — roughly the length of a real wall. The median is used so that an isolated slope does not classify a flat municipality as sloping.

As with the terrain, this is the municipality average and not your plot. A flat plot in a sloping municipality is perfectly possible — and the other way round too.

Licensing in Mafra

The requirements are municipal: they depend on the height of the wall, its position relative to the public road, the property boundary and what the Mafra PDM lays down. We are not going to tell you it "is not needed" just to close a sale. Check with the municipal council before going ahead; if needed, we provide the dimensions and the drawing of the wall to support the application.
